Upshur Head Start

Upshur Human Resources, Inc. Head Start program promotes school readiness for low-income families with young children by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development.

We also support the comprehensive development of children from three to age five whether the children are attending centers, childcare partner locations, and/or in their own homes with physical, social and emotional development and language development.

Director's Welcome

Thank you for your interest in our early childhood program. I have had the pleasure of being the executive/head start director since January 2023 and resided as the education/prek collaborative manager for more than 25 years as part of my journey with the head start program. I hope you find our website content helpful as you decide to enroll your child/children into our program. The program offers a wide variety and diversity of experiences where children learn to play and play to learn. We look forward to meeting many of you during our annual classroom orientation.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote the school readiness of young children. School readiness helps prepare the children for school, supporting families with their children’s learning, and schools are ready as children transition into kindergarten.

Upshur Human Resources, Inc. Head Start works with head start agencies who design services for children and families that meet the needs of their local community and follow the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

The Vision & Values We Teach

Our vision is to be an exemplary early childhood education program providing quality services to 3-5 year old children and their families in Upshur County; to ensure that developmentally appropriate skills are practiced in all aspects of the program and to be advocates for the children and families that we serve; to coordinate services with community service providers whereas not to duplicate but rather enhance services, and continue meeting family needs through a network of community resources.
